Periodontal Treatment Long Branch

Although robust oral health is an essential factor in overall wellness and quality of life, many individuals still experience gum disease. Gum sensitivity, inflammation, or mild bleeding of the gums are considered routine, but they are not. The truth is, these symptoms are commonly the initial warning signs of gum disease in its earliest form, gingivitis.

Gingivitis is the easiest stage to reverse and treat. Please do not overlook the condition as it can lead to Periodontitis. Periodontitis is a more aggressive and complex form of gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss and other overall severe health complications.

When are you ready for the smile of your dreams, let us help you achieve your smile goals! At Orchard Dental Care, our Etobicoke dental care professionals, Dr. Elizabeth Polanski, along with their team, are dedicated to helping patients throughout Ontario achieve optimal oral health once more through compassionate periodontal treatment Long Branch and maintenance.

What is Periodontal Gum Disease?

The term “periodontal” means “around the tooth.” Periodontal disease is a common inflammatory condition that affects the supporting and surrounding soft tissues of the tooth. It is most often preceded by gingivitis, which is a bacterial infection of the gum tissue. Once this bacterial infection colonizes in the gum pockets between the teeth, it becomes much more difficult to remove and treat. Periodontal disease is a progressive condition that eventually leads to the destruction of the connective tissue and jawbone. If left untreated, it can lead to shifting teeth, loose teeth and tooth loss.

With new state-of-the-art dental treatments, the Orchard Dental team works on all areas of your smile to keep you feeling and looking your best. We ask questions about your dental goals, discuss your options for creating your ultimate smile and design a customized periodontal treatment Long Branch plan to craft you a dazzling smile. Importance of Periodontal Conditions

There are few symptoms in the early stages of gum disease, and many individuals with the infection don’t seek treatment until their condition has worsened. If left to progress further, the plaque that builds up on teeth will harden, turning into tartar. Regular brushing and flossing will not be enough for the buildup to be removed appropriately.

The following are often common symptoms of gum disease:

  • Bleeding gums when brushing and flossing
  • Exposure of tooth roots from gum recession
  • Red, inflamed gums
  • Receding gums
  • Swollen and sensitive gums
  • Sensitivity to temperature
  • Loose teeth
  • Toothaches or decay

Advanced gum disease can cause permanent damage to the smile, making everyday function uncomfortable or impossible. At Orchard Dental Care, our top priority is to prevent your smile from reaching this point and preserve natural teeth from the extraction or extensive dental care as much as possible. Call us today at (416) 239-3773 to schedule the best date and time for your visit.

When left untreated, gingivitis (mild gum inflammation) can spread below the gum line. There may be little or no symptoms as periodontal disease causes the teeth to separate from the infected gum tissue. However, deepening pockets between the gums and teeth indicate that soft tissue and bone are destroyed by periodontal disease.

Chronic Periodontitis

Inflammation within supporting tissues causes deep pockets and gum recession. Chronic Periodontitis is the most common form of periodontal disease characterized by progressive loss of attachment, interspersed with rapid progression.

Aggressive Periodontitis

This form of gum disease is an otherwise clinically healthy individual. Egressive Periodontitis is characterized by rapid loss of gum attachment, chronic bone destruction and familial aggregation.

Necrotizing Periodontitis

This form of periodontal disease most often occurs in individuals suffering from systemic conditions such as HIV, immunosuppression and malnutrition. Necrosis (tissue death) occurs in the periodontal ligament, alveolar bone and gingival tissues.

Periodontitis Caused by Systemic Disease

This form of gum disease often begins at an early stage. Medical conditions such as respiratory disease, diabetes and heart disease are common cofactors.

Clean Air Technology

With all the worries people have about going to the dentist, breathing unhealthy air shouldn’t be one of them. Dental offices are public, high-traffic spaces, with patients themselves a source of air pollution. And because of the impact of common colds, disease, viruses and illnesses, the need to prevent the spread of airborne viral and bacterial infectious agents is greater than ever.

However, our medical-grade air purifiers remove chemicals, toxins, germs, odours, and most importantly they kill airborne viruses, to help reduce the spread of illness. Therefore you can breathe easily at every appointment that our clean air technology and air purification technology is there to ensure your safety throughout your visit.
